Relaxation

Relaxation Can Help Put Things Into Perspective

Relaxation is important. Everyone needs some time out to themselves to do something they enjoy. It is easy to forget to make time for yourself when things get stressful. Sometimes we are just so preoccupied that days can go without doing anything for ourselves.

Many forms of relaxation, like walking or sitting quietly, are very simple and easy to do. Others, like yoga or mediation, require some training or discipline. Going fishing or playing sport can be a great way of relaxing. You might want to write a list of other things you find relaxing.

Read through this list of suggestions. Put aside some time in the day and try some out to see which ones you find relaxing.

  • Go for a walk. Take time to notice the things around you
  • Listen to some music you really like
  • Go fishing
  • Sit quietly in a park and look at the things around you.
  • Play your favourite sport
  • Take a bath. Lie back, shut out everything else and relax
  • Go to a movie or watch a video
  • Visit a friend
  • Go for a swim
  • Do a puzzle
  • Read a book
  • Learn yoga or meditation or special breathing techniques
  • Have a massage

Breathing Techniques

When you are anxious, your breathing can be quick and shallow, which reduces the amount of oxygen going to your organs. Learning how to breathe efficiently can help reduce some of the physiological symptoms of anxiety.

The Benefits of Massage

Blissing out and relaxing is the most obvious reasons for booking a massage, however, a therapeutic massage will also:

  • Aid the repair of your muscles, joints and connected tissues
  • Release the physical and mental tension in your body
  • Enhance your immune system to assist the natural defence mechanisms of your body.
  • Detoxify and renew the cells of all organs
  • Enters your mind into an alpha, and sometimes, theta brain wave state - a place deeper than average sleep - allowing a greater sense of perspective, clarity and creativity.
  • Gives you a sense of connection we feel from massage, which is difficult to describe until you've experienced it; as well as a sense of isolation and dis-ease gives way to comfort and an overall sense of ease. Though this is subtle, it is a powerful experience with the influence usually felt for several days following.

E.F.T. Therapy

The other useful 'tool' for assisting in reducing anxieties etc., is the Emotional Freedom Technique. The teaching of this technique is currently available through our clinic. If you can spare half-an-hour a couple of times for the first week, then once weekly for four weeks, then fortnightly if required. Julie will teach you this technique.
